Hello, I’m Justin. I am a high-school student, or was, and am currently residing in Glendora California but, I will be heading to McPherson College in Kansas this August. . McPherson happens to be the only college in the United States that offers a four year degree in Historical Automotive Restoration. What exactly is Historical Automotive Restoration, one might ask? Essentially it is restoring and fixing up old cars to running condition or to the way it was when it came off the factory floor. Did I mention that I love old cars?
McPherson itself is a decently small town of about 13,000 residents and the college has about 600 students. This equals a small town America feel, quite different from California where I have lived my entire life. Some might ask why the heck would a California kid like me, want to go to college as far away as Kansas? Did I mention that I love old cars? Prior to being accepted at McPherson I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I figured I would go to college at Northern Arizona University (where I was already accepted), and figure out a major there. However, as fate would have it, I talked to a gentleman who owned a 1950 Plymouth, (Larry Koska), at Glendora’s annual Flashback to the 50’s car show. He and I shot the breeze for a while, and he said he remembered reading about a college in the Midwest that had a major in Historical Automotive Restoration. I researched it, I found it, I applied, and here I am. Sharing my journey with anyone who cares to listen.
